Travel Photography

Travel photography gives you new perspectives and adventures. It can take you out of your comfort zone and expose you to new and interesting climates and experiences.  I try to have a new adventure to look forward to at least each year. My theory is that the closer you can get to the action the better you are. Follow my tips on getting close to the action so that you have no excuse not to get up to photograph the stars or the sunrise. The most important part of getting the right shot is being there at the right time. If you are near the action, then it will be easier to get that, but that comes with some sacrifices. You can’t be a high maintenance photographer if you want to get the good shots.  Sometimes you have to forego a good night’s sleep or a bed or shower in order to get it.  If it’s important to you to be there, then the rest won’t be much of a sacrifice.

Urbex

Urbex

Urbex, also known as Urban Exploration is an intriguing hobby of many photographers. There is much to be found in abandoned buildings from both artistically and historically. Among the ruins and the post-apalcolyptic scenes  are beautiful images and the symbolism.  Many times a new tree or flower grows in the midst of the ruins and reminds the visitor that nature is a strong force. There is much mystery and peace among the ruins of a life that used to be full and promising. It is very cathartic to walk in the ruins and see what was important to someone one day is left in tact and abandoned another day. It often makes me wonder who will be exploring the ruins of my life when I am gone. It reminds me that material items are not important and that they are easily left and forgotten. The photographs and the memories that I take of these experiences are priceless and the photos often serve as my memory of another time and place where things are quiet, peaceful and abandoned.
